Greenfield Defies Rabbonim Again: Backs Chris Quinn for Mayor
Just as he did in the special election for State Senator, Councilman David Greenfield is standing against our rabbonim by supporting a candidate for mayor who is against Torah values and actually scoffs at the the Yeshivish and Chasidish communities.
Last year, our community's most respected rabbonim--including HaRav Belsky and Sephardi Rabbonim--made it clear that a vote for Lew Fidler was a vote against Torah values. Fidler is among the most liberal of the left-wing elected officials. He was opposed by David Storobin, who would eventually win the election. But despite reprimands by our community leaders, Greenfield was defiant and assigned his own workers to assist Lew Fidler.
Today, with the current mayoral race, the Orthodox Jewish vote is vital to the many candidates who are running. Some respect our rights, our needs and our religious freedom. Only one mayoral candidate has treated us with disdain: Christine Quinn.
Two days ago, during a visit to the John Gambling Show on WOR, Christine Quinn attacked her fellow mayoral candidates for “pandering to the Jewish community on practices surrounding circumcision.” Then, when addressing a group of modern Orthodox in Flatbush last night, Quinn purposely and defiantly made references to her "wife". Quinn's well-publicized same-sex marriage is well known--why call such attention to it?
How is Councilman Greenfield supporting Chris Quinn? Greenfield has given Quinn access to many of his workers and affiliates like Jacob Kornbluh and Moshe Friedman, who run his "social media" campaigns (Twitter, etc.) to help Quinn gain voters in our community--voters who do not understand what Quinn stands for. He has inserted Kornbluh onto the staff of the YeshivaWorldNews website with instructions to try and gain Orthodox support for his candidate. We now hear that Greenfield has been quietly raising funds for Quinn, too.
Why is David Greenfield supporting Chris Quinn with Orthodox Jewish money and voters? Greenfield hopes his investment in Quinn, who is the leading candidate at this time, will lead to a greater position for himself on the NY City Council, such as chair of Finance.
That's wrong. That's selfish. That is not Torah values!
When it comes time to vote for our new mayor, remember how the current one has treated our community.
